Agartala: “Tomorrow,” a social media post of TIPRA supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman amidst reports of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s sudden departure for Delhi on Friday evening, took the whole political circle by storm.
While speculations were running thick and fast with no clear flow of information from either side, sources said that the central government may sign an accord with the principal political party of the state, which had been using the slogan of “constitutional solution” as its war cry.
Sources in the TIPRA Motha Party said, “In all likelihood, the talks between the Central government and the state will take a final shape tomorrow. Senior leaders like Leader of the Opposition Animesh Debbarma, Party President BK Hrangkhawl, MLA Brishaketu Debbarma, Chairman of TTAADC Jagadish Debbarma, and Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the TTAADC PC Jamatia have left for Delhi.”
In the meantime, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Chief Secretary JK Sinha had also left for New Delhi. Former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Union Minister of State Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik, MP from East Tripura parliamentary constituency Rebati Tripura, and other senior leaders are also in Delhi.
On being contacted, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee refused to disclose anything. “Let’s wait for the day. If something happens, it will be done publicly.” Sources claimed that at 11:30 AM the much-awaited accord would be signed in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital.
All the senior functionaries of both states would remain present at the signing ceremony.
Speaking to media persons, TTAADC Chairman Jagadish Debbarma said, “We have received a call from Bubagra. He told us to rush to Delhi. I think a meeting with the Home Ministry is on the cards.”
