Agartala: Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, was surprised to witness the raw food materials people of the state regularly consume on their platters. The Governor, who had been traveling to the length and breadth of the state to understand its culture and heritage closely, reached Maharaj Ganja Bazar, the biggest market of raw vegetables, meat, fish, and other perishable items, on Wednesday.
He learnt about the consumption of several vegetables that are never treated as food in his hometown. Speaking to media persons, the Tripura Governor expressed that he had come across a lot of new and interesting things.
According to the Tripura Governor, people should be allowed to eat what they want so that nothing gets wasted.
“In our hometown, the leaves of gourd are not used for preparing dishes. Here I could see that people have been buying it like anything. I have also visited the fish market. Here people consume the head of the fish as well. In our areas, only the body of the fish is considered food.

The dry fish which is imported from Bangladesh is new for me,” the Tripura Governor added. Stating that food should be free of any restriction, he said, “My point is that if something is edible, it should be a part of the food. No restrictions should be imposed on food as it plays a very crucial role in our lives.”
On being asked about the objective of his visit, the Tripura Governor said, “I was told that this is the biggest market where agricultural produce is sold at a large scale. I came here to see the market and interact with the vendors. The Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and other senior officials of the city corporation are here with me. In conclusion of the inspection visit, I shall sit with the mayor and other officials to discuss the development plans initiated by the AMC.”
