Agartala: A senior commander of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) surrendered before the BSF on Tuesday.

The 51-year-old, Rana Bahadur Debbarma alias Roaja alias Hemchang, was an active member of the NLFT (BM) and was holding the rank of self-styled captain in the outfit

Speaking with the media after his surrender, Debbarma said, “I surrendered thinking about the remaining days of my life and my future. I am getting older. I went underground in 1995, so it has been around 26 years.”

Debbarma surrendered before the BSF in the presence of Susanta Kumar Nath, Inspector General Tripura, and other senior officials

Debbarma reportedly joined the NLFT (BM) in 1995 and has been an active member since then. The BSF also mentioned that Debbarma had not seen any of his family members ever since he joined the NLFT (BM).

The surrendered commander met his younger brother and elder sister after more than 25 years soon after his surrender.

Susanta Kumar Nath, Inspector General, Border Security Force, Tripura, said that Debbarma has returned home after 25 years and got the opportunity to meet his younger brother and elder sister.

“He surrendered to the BSF after considering various factors and now he is going to lead a happy life,” Nath said. 

As per records, around 24 cadres of the NLFT have surrendered in the state till date. This includes 5 cadres in 2017, 12 in 2018, 3 in 2019 and 2020 and 1 in 2021. Rana Bahadur is the 25th cadre to have surrendered to the BSF.
