Agartala: Manisankar Murasingh, the vice-captain of the Tripura state Ranji team and one of the finest all-rounders the state has ever produced, made history by surpassing the milestone of 300 wickets in domestic cricket.
His impressive showing in the current Ranji season showcased his cricketing skill and unwavering consistency. With a five-wicket haul in the recently concluded match against Jammu and Kashmir, Murasingh joined the ranks of celebrated cricketers who have achieved the 300-wicket mark in domestic cricket.
Despite Tripura’s loss in the match, it was a hard-fought contest. Speaking exclusively to EastMojo from Indore, the seamer-all-rounder emphasized that this milestone would not alter his approach to cricket.
“I was never fascinated with statistics. The only thing I focus on is playing well and performing for my state whenever required. My attention is now on the upcoming T20 and one-day tournaments,” he said.
Reflecting on Tripura’s performance in the Ranji elite group, he commented, “Over the last two seasons, we have been performing better compared to Tripura’s track record. To qualify for the knockout stage, a team needs a bit of luck. The first match against Orissa was called off due to ground conditions, earning us only one point. Unfortunately, we couldn’t secure a win against J&K, which was crucial. Now, with two matches left, even winning both won’t guarantee an easy route to qualification.”
Murasingh expressed his focus on the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20), which begins on November 23.
“Our entire team is in Indore. We have our first match against Tamil Nadu on November 23,” he said, adding that the T20 format poses a significant challenge for his team.
“We haven’t yet proven our potential in the T20 format. For many years, we’ve struggled to make a mark. It’s worth noting that IPL selections often hinge on performances in these tournaments,” he told EastMojo.
When asked about his hopes for IPL selection, Murasingh replied, “This year, my name didn’t appear in the auction list. To be honest, I’m not disappointed or disheartened. There were times when my name was in the auction list, but nothing came of it. I believe that if I perform well, opportunities can come at any time from any direction. My focus is on playing the full season here and contributing to my team.”
The 31-year-old cricketer also informed EastMojo that he plans to join the UK county tournament, as he has done in previous years.
