Gangtok: Citizen Action Party which is debuting in general elections in 2024 has fielded candidates in all 32 assembly candidates. CAP has proposed Ganesh Rai to be their Chief Minister candidate who is now contesting from two constituencies. His native Melli in Namchi District and Chujachen in Pakyong District.
Rai, who formerly served as Zilla Adhyakshya with Sikkim Democratic Front party, distanced himself to form his party after 2019 when SDF lost. CAP came initially as a ‘Reform Call’ vouching to bring change in state politics in the State. CAP was seen as the third alternative in 2019, after ruling front SKM and opposition SDF.
Other candidates declared by CAP on Wednesday include party spokesperson Prakash Parajuly from Maneybong Dentam, Pujan Khadka from Geyzing Bernyak, Dawa Ongdi Bhutia from Rinchenpong, Sonam Dadul Lepcha from Barfung, Sanju Rai from Poklok Kamrang, Bikash Sharma from Temi Namphing, Anil Kumar Nepal from Rangang Yangang, Pema Gyalpo Bhutia from Tumin Lingee, Madan Kumar Shiva Shankar from West Pendam, Sonam Tshering Lepcha from Syari, Karma Tshering Bhutia from Martam Rumtek, Pobin Hang Limboo from Soreng Chakung, and Karma Dichen Bhutia from Kabi Lungchok.
CAP had earlier declared candidates for 14 constituencies on March 22. They have declared senior politician Bharat Basnet as their Lok Sabha MP candidate.
