Gangtok: Sikkim recorded 227 new COVID-19 cases on May 9, taking the tally to 1,926 cases in May. The state has averaged about 214 cases every day in May and the state tally stands at 9,878 cases.
Along with the new cases, 2 COVID-related deaths were recorded on Sunday. The death tally in the state reached 167, with 20 deaths recorded in just nine days in May.
There are 2,637 active COVID-19 cases in the state with 302 patients currently admitted. STNM Hospital has the highest number of patients with 133 patients currently admitted, with 10 in ICU and 123 in High Dependency Units or COVID-19 wards. 22 new admissions were also recorded in the COVID-19 wards on Sunday.

Central Referral Hospital with a capacity of 100 beds has now reached 97 patients admitted with four in ICU. There were 37 new admissions recorded on Sunday. No new admissions were recorded in district hospitals, with only Mangan Hospital in North Sikkim housing 12 patients.
Among the new cases, East Sikkim recorded the highest with 143 cases with 1,301 cases recorded just in May. The district tally now has 7,349 cases.
South Sikkim recorded 52 new cases, taking the district tally to 1.530 cases. West Sikkim recorded 32 new cases, taking the district tally to 629 cases. No new cases were reported in North Sikkim.
808 tests were conducted with 650 in RT-PCR resulting in 158 people testing positive. 152 RAT tests resulted in 68 people testing positive for COVID-19. 1 in 6 tested positive in CBNAT-TrueNAT tests.
