Assam, Nagaland to get additional railway tracks

The Ministry of Railways has approved the doubling of railway tracks in certain parts of Assam and Nagaland. This is to be done by doubling the tracks from Agthori to Kamakhya, including the Saraighat Bridge over the Brahmaputra River.

One of the main objectives of this project is to increase the line capacity by creating an additional lane for both inward and outward traffic to the region. This is expected to benefit the people of the area by making it easier for them to travel and transport goods and services more easily.

The project will also provide employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled manpower in the nearby areas. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 1650.37 crore, with 41% of the cost being shared by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The work of the Lumding to Furkating section, which is 140 km long, has also been approved as part of the proposed Lumding to Tinsukia to Dibrugarh 381 km long doubling project. This project will benefit the local population of Hojai, Karbi-Anglong, and Golaghat districts of Assam and Dimapur of Nagaland by improving railway connectivity and reducing transportation costs.
