Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has condemned the killing of thirteen civilians and one jawan by security forces after being mistaken for insurgents on the Tiru-Oting road near Oting village in Mon district of Nagaland.
“This is heart wrenching. GOI must give a real reply. What exactly is the home ministry doing when neither civilians nor security personnel are safe in our own land?” the Congress leader tweeted.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also took to Twitter sending out condolences to the families of those who died in the incident.
Following the killings, six Eastern Nagaland tribes: Sangtam, Konyak, Yimkhiung, Khiamniungam, Phom and Chang have withdrawn from the festival to protest against the killings, while the Sumi Hoho asked “all Sumi individuals and groups to skip participating in the Hornbill Festival 2021 till further notice.”
In an attempt to control law and order in Mon district following the shocking incidents, Internet services have also been snapped in the state.
