Imphal: The National Investigation Agency has arrested one person in connection with the April 7 IED attack at a house in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Moirang, Manipur’s Bishnupur district, which killed two minor children and injured another person.
The case was first registered at Moirang Police Station after suspected militants allegedly launched an explosive device from a hillside towards the locality.
The device struck the wall of a house, seriously injuring three family members. Two of the injured children later died. An unexploded improvised rocket-propelled grenade was also recovered near the site.
The NIA took over the investigation and re-registered the case on April 23 under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Explosive Substances Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The agency arrested S. Palal Thadou after its investigation indicated his alleged involvement in the attack. He had earlier been arrested by Churachandpur Police and Bishnupur Police in separate cases.
Thadou is the first person arrested in the NIA case. He was produced before the Special NIA Court in Imphal and remanded to 10 days of police custody.
The NIA said further investigation is underway to identify others involved and examine the wider conspiracy behind the attack.
