President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said education is a vital instrument of empowerment and that young people advancing through education and technology will play a key role in building a strong, prosperous and self-reliant India.

The President made the remarks while addressing beneficiaries of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs’ flagship scholarship schemes who met her at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Murmu said education has the power to make individuals self-reliant, aware and capable, adding that it had played a significant role in her own life journey. She said the experiences and achievements of young people should inspire children from resource-constrained backgrounds to pursue their aspirations.

“It is only when they forge ahead, while taking others along, that the inclusive development of the nation will become a reality,” she said.

Highlighting the role of government initiatives, the President said the Centre is making continuous efforts through various schemes to empower and uplift youth from tribal communities. She described scholarship programmes as more than financial assistance, saying they help young people pursue their ambitions and access opportunities that may otherwise remain out of reach.

“Scholarships open doors to new possibilities in the lives of youth who possess immense talent but are held back from progressing due to a lack of resources,” Murmu said.

She also stressed that India has abundant talent and that the key requirement is providing proper guidance, support and opportunities. According to the President, the presence of scholarship beneficiaries demonstrated that young people from villages, remote areas and tribal regions can excel when given the necessary support.

Murmu said true development can be achieved only when all sections of society progress socially, economically and educationally. She noted that government scholarship schemes have enabled greater access to higher education and created new opportunities for tribal students.

The President urged young people, particularly those from tribal communities, to remain connected to their roots and communities while pursuing their goals.

“When the youth advance on the strength of education and technology, taking pride in their heritage, they will build a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant India,” she said.

Referring to the country’s development goals, Murmu said youth would have a significant role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. She added that regardless of the field they choose, young people can contribute actively to the development of society and the nation.

The President described youth as the strength, hope and future of the country and encouraged them to use their education and opportunities to support both personal growth and broader national development.
