The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Revati Mohite Dere, the second senior-most judge of the Bombay High Court, for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, during a meeting held on Thursday.

Justice Dere’s elevation follows the transfer of Justice Soumen Sen, the incumbent Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, who has been recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, consequent upon the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice on January 9, 2026.

Justice Revati Mohite Dere was born on April 17, 1965, in Pune and completed her LL.B. from Symbiosis Law College, Pune, Maharashtra. She later completed her LL.M. from the University of Cambridge.

Thereafter, she joined the chamber of her father, senior advocate Vijay A. Mohite. Subsequently, she practised before the Bombay High Court, handling criminal, civil and constitutional matters. She also served as a prosecutor for the Government of Maharashtra before being elevated as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court on June 21, 2013.

On March 2, 2016, she was appointed as a permanent judge of the Bombay High Court and has continued to serve there since then without any transfer.

The Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday also recommended Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque of the Kerala High Court for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court.

Justice Mustaque was born on June 1, 1967, and hails from Kannur, Kerala. He obtained his law degree from V.B. College of Law, Udupi, Karnataka, and later earned an LL.M. in Labour Law from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala.

Justice Mustaque served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court from July 5, 2024, to September 25, 2024. He has been a permanent judge of the Kerala High Court (and Lakshadweep) at Kochi, Ernakulam, since March 10, 2016.

Other recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium include Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta of the Allahabad High Court as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, consequent upon the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice on January 9, 2026; Justice M.S. Sonak of the Bombay High Court as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, consequent upon the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice on January 8, 2026; and Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo of the Orissa High Court as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
