Imphal: In a series of intelligence-based operations conducted across various districts of Manipur from August 18 to 23, security forces apprehended eight insurgents linked to multiple militant outfits, and seized a cache of arms, ammunition, and other war-like stores, officials said.
According to the Defence spokesperson for Manipur, Nagaland, and southern Arunachal Pradesh, the operations were conducted across Jiribam, Pherzawl, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts. The arrested individuals are said to belong to both hill and valley-based insurgent groups.
On August 18, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Imphal West police commandos arrested two active cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Federal League) from the Lamphel area.
A day later, on August 19, Assam Rifles and Imphal Police apprehended a cadre of KCP (MFL) in Wangkhei Angom, Imphal East, who was allegedly involved in extortion and intimidation in Imphal town. Another joint operation the same day led to the arrest of a KCP (People’s War Group) cadre from Keirang, also in Imphal East.
On August 20, three cadres of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) were arrested in Kshetrileikai, Thoubal district by Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police Commandos.
On the same day, a joint team comprising the Indian Army, CRPF, and local police launched a search operation in Sunusiphai Paton, near Loktak Lake, resulting in the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, single-barrel rifle, smoke grenade, Baofeng radio set, assorted live ammunition, bulletproof jackets, and ballistic helmets.
Later, on August 23, an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba) was arrested from Ningthoukhong Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur district by Assam Rifles and Bishnupur Police Commandos.
Also on August 23, a joint Area Domination Patrol involving Manipur Police, CRPF, and Assam Rifles in Chaudharykhal and Savomphai villages of Jiribam and Pherzawl districts led to the recovery of more weapons. These included an AK-47, INSAS LMG, .303 rifle, single-barrel rifle, 9mm pistol, grenades, multiple rounds of live ammunition, radio sets, and magazines of various calibres.
