Aizawl: A total of 163 Mizo youths have cleared the Assam Regiment recruitment rally held from August 11 to 13 in Shillong, marking a milestone for Mizoram in national defence recruitment. In addition, 12 sportspersons were selected under the Sports Quota, with several others currently undergoing medical review.

The rally also saw 39 general candidates and 3 sportspersons awaiting medical clearance, raising hopes of more final selections in the coming days.

This achievement follows a meeting on July 13, 2025, in Aizawl between Mizoram’s Sports & Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar and Brigadier Vikas Rai Shandilya, Commandant of the Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong. They addressed the underutilization of Mizoram’s recruitment quota and agreed to strengthen participation, particularly under the sports category.

Following this, the Mizo Territorial Army Company, Aizawl, in collaboration with the Sports Department, organized pre-recruitment training and orientation in Aizawl. Candidates were guided through document verification, medical fitness checks, and familiarized with the recruitment process. The initiative was closely monitored and supported by Champhai South MLA Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga.

With support from the Mizoram State Sports Council and various sports associations, potential candidates from across the state were identified and recommended. Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar expressed deep satisfaction at the result, noting that Mizoram had never achieved such a high number of successful recruits in recent years.

He highlighted that compared to last year’s 57 selections, this year’s figure of 163 shows the success of focused training, proper coordination, and community engagement. He emphasized the importance of continuing this momentum and pledged further support to aspiring youths and athletes aiming to serve in the armed forces.
