Mizoram marked a milestone in public healthcare today with the launch of its first-ever Health ATMs under the Lunglei District Administration’s “Healthy Lunglei Initiative.” The ATMs were inaugurated at Civil Hospital Lunglei and Primary Health Centre (PHC) Lungsen. The launch programme was held at the Seminar Hall of Civil Hospital Lunglei, with Health & Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii attending as Chief Guest.
In her address, Lalrinpuii described the event as a proud and historic moment for Lunglei and Mizoram, noting that these are the first Health ATMs to be launched in the state. She praised the ongoing progress of the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign, which began in June 2024 and has since enhanced preventive healthcare delivery through community engagement, health screenings, and awareness drives.
The Minister explained that the new Health ATMs are equipped with modern diagnostic tools that allow individuals to instantly check vital health parameters such as blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, oxygen levels, and more. She emphasised that these IoT-enabled kiosks will generate digital health records for users, enabling timely follow-up and reducing the urban-rural gap in healthcare access by saving time and costs for patients.
She also acknowledged the Lunglei Deputy Commissioner’s office for spearheading holistic public health programmes such as Project LEAP, which supports persons with disabilities, and Project BLOOM, focused on maternal and child health improvements in the Lungsen Aspirational Block. The Minister thanked CSR partners MVS India, ABCI Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd, and BRN for their contributions, calling the Health ATM project a powerful example of collaboration between government, private sector, and civil society.
The event began with a welcome address by Zoramdini, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Lunglei. This was followed by Bible reading and a prayer by Rev. V. Lalzarliana of the Baptist Church of Mizoram. Deputy Commissioner Navneet Mann provided a briefing on the Health ATM initiative and the larger Healthy Lunglei District Campaign. Dr SR Ngurchamliana, Director of the Directorate of Hospital & Medical Education (DHME), and Pu Lalhruailiana Zote, Block Development Officer of Lungsen, also spoke at the function.
The Health ATMs were officially launched at Civil Hospital Lunglei, and the launch was simultaneously connected via video conference to PHC Lungsen. A live demonstration of the kiosk was conducted by Dr Lalremmuana Ralte, Medical Officer at the NCD Clinic, Civil Hospital Lunglei.
The Health ATM initiative was formalised through a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Manav Vikas Sanstha (MVS India), the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Lunglei, and ABCI Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd. Under the agreement, ABCI and BRN have provided funding for the procurement and maintenance of the kiosks through their CSR programme. MVS India is handling installation, training, and technical support, while the DC’s office is responsible for administrative facilitation and long-term sustainability.
Each Health ATM offers 35 diagnostic tests across areas including general health, diabetes, hematology, cardiology, ear and eye care, and mental health. Services include blood pressure checks, blood sugar monitoring, BMI calculation, ECG, lipid profiling, vision and hearing assessments, and mental health screenings for depression and anxiety. A personalised diet plan feature is also available. All tests are provided free of cost, take less than 30 minutes to complete, and results are instantly sent to users’ mobile phones.
