Dimapur: The NSCN-K (Khango) faction has issued a detailed statement addressing allegations of extortion involving Aolemba Longkumer, a contractor and resident of Chümoukedima. The allegations arose from an incident on December 16, 2024, in which the group allegedly demanded ₹50 lakh from Longkumer, sparking widespread condemnation across various sections of society.
In its statement, the NSCN-K (Khango) clarified that it had penalized Aolemba by imposing a fine of ₹50 lakh for failing to execute project works as per the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and for allegedly misappropriating substantial funds allocated for the projects. The group stated that the fine was imposed following a thorough investigation and deliberation during a cabinet meeting.
“The Government is in possession of enough proof and evidence to supplement its stand and will not hesitate to bring out [this evidence] in the public domain if need arises,” read the statement issued by the group’s Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP).
The group appealed to civil society organizations (CSOs) to examine the rationale behind its actions. “NSCN/GPRN appeals to all the CSOs involved to first take into account why such actions were initiated by the NSCN Government against the said individual. Furthermore, as a people’s mandate Government, the NSCN sends a clear message to all contractors and suppliers in Nagaland to execute the works as prescribed in the DPR for the all-around development of the state of Nagaland,” the statement emphasized.
The NSCN-K (Khango) also highlighted the importance of checks and balances in developmental projects to curb corruption. It urged competent authorities to strictly verify ongoing projects. “The NSCN/GPRN will not remain a mute spectator when huge amounts of money meant for the development of Naga-inhabited areas and the younger generation of the Nagas are siphoned off by contractors and suppliers,” it said.
Addressing remarks made during a recent joint press conference, the NSCN-K (Khango) expressed disappointment over suggestions by some CSO leaders to prepare for civil war or bloodshed. “When all Nagas across the globe are longing for a peaceful final settlement, we are deeply dismayed to hear that during the joint press conference, some CSO leaders suggested Nagas prepare for civil war or bloodshed. These comments are uncalled for. The stand of the NSCN is crystal clear—yesterday, today, and tomorrow—that we will not and will never tolerate bloodshed among the Naga family, even in the future,” the group asserted.
The statement provides the group’s perspective amid increasing public scrutiny and concerns over the alleged extortion attempt. The allegations remain under investigation, with civil society groups urging clarity and accountability from all parties involved.
