This October, Mizoram is set to make history by hosting India’s first-ever Red Bull Urban Downhill Racing event, the Red Bull Tlang Ruam. Held in the bustling streets of Aizawl, this landmark event will bring together elite cyclists from across the nation and beyond, competing in a thrilling and challenging race that marks a significant milestone in India’s adventure sports scene.
The planning for this historic event has been meticulous. In May, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, alongside Sports and Youth Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, held a crucial meeting with Red Bull representatives to discuss hosting the Red Bull Urban Downhill Racing event in Aizawl. The Chief Minister expressed his excitement, seeing this international event as a platform to showcase Mizoram’s global appeal. “We deeply appreciate his enthusiastic support, and the government has expressed a willingness to extend any necessary assistance,” Hmar stated.
The event builds on the groundwork laid last December when Czech mountain biking legend Tomáš Slavík visited Mizoram. Slavík scouted the streets of Aizawl, carving out a challenging urban downhill mountain bike route through the city. The course he designed is filled with treacherous obstacles, including narrow staircases and tight urban corners, highlighting Aizawl’s unique and demanding terrain.
The Red Bull Tlang Ruam will challenge participants with over four minutes of grueling descents as they navigate Aizawl’s complex urban landscape. Cyclists will compete for the honor of being crowned the first-ever winner of the Red Bull Tlang Ruam, making this a highly anticipated event in the world of urban downhill racing.
In addition to the discussions with Red Bull, the Sports Minister has also engaged with the Mizoram Cycling Association to gather their perspectives and suggestions for the race.
Mizoram’s debut on the global urban downhill racing stage is set to elevate the region’s profile in adventure sports, drawing attention to its unique landscape and thrilling possibilities for future events.
