Imphal: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has severely disrupted vehicular movement along National Highway 202 (Imphal-Ukhrul road) in Manipur, particularly affecting heavy vehicles.

The downpour, especially intense in Ukhrul district, has caused minor landslides along the stretch, although no untoward incidents have been reported.

Manipur: Incessant rainfall disrupts traffic on Imphal-Ukhrul road

Vehicles, including private cars, were stranded between New Heaven and TM Kasom village due to mudslides caused by the inclement weather. Drivers were forced to proceed at a snail’s pace as their vehicles skidded on the muddy portions of the road.

The Imphal-Ukhrul road has been in a deplorable condition for many years, causing severe disruptions for commuters.

The ongoing construction to upgrade the highway to a double lane, which began in 2020, often gets flooded with mud and landslide debris, necessitating constant maintenance, especially during the monsoon season.
