Tura: In a scathing critique of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, Dr. Mukul Sangma, the opposition leader in the state and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, lambasted what he termed as rampant irregularities and a nexus between the NPP-BJP-Congress.
Addressing concerns during one of his election campaigns, Dr. Sangma highlighted the palpable frustration and anger among the populace, particularly the youth, attributing it to the significant disruption in livelihood activities under the MDA regime.
“Implementation of government programs and schemes from the center has been marred by a plethora of irregularities, leading to escalated prices of essential commodities, including rice, severely impacting the livelihoods of our people,” Dr. Sangma asserted.
He further criticized the government’s handling of youth employment, citing failure to fill existing vacancies and reliance on contractual employment as unacceptable practices.
Dr. Sangma also denounced the alleged complicity of the government in facilitating illegal smuggling of betelnut into Garo Hills, resulting in plummeting prices of arecanut and adversely affecting farmers. He pointedly referred to the recent transfer of the North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner following the exposure of illicit activities, insinuating government involvement.
Turning his attention to the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Dr. Sangma blamed both the Tura MP and the current Congress candidate, Saleng A Sangma, for purportedly endorsing it. He accused them of betraying the collective opposition of the North East to the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), now transformed into the CAA, during its legislative process.
Dr. Sangma did not mince words in attributing the alleged collusion between the NPP, BJP, and Congress to Vincent Pala, the President of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
