Gangtok: While other parties in Sikkim are yet to declare their candidates, the CAP (Citizen Action Party) has declared their second list of candidates, including the coveted Lok Sabha MP candidate Bharat Basnet.
Basnet, the Interim party president, has previously contested the elections as an MP candidate with Sikkim Congress.
Basnet started his political career with the former Sikkim Sangram Parishad, led by the late Nar Bahadur Bhandari, the former Chief Minister of Sikkim.
CAP spokesperson Prashant Babu Chettri, who declared the names of the candidates on Sunday in the State capital, stated, “For the past 5 years, Sikkim has paid dividends of selecting a youth as the MP candidate from the State. He proved to be a wrong choice not taking the concerns of Sikkim to the Indian Parliament. Going by the common perception of the general public of the State, CAP has entrusted that responsibility to an experienced politician Bharat Basnet. He was one of the petitioners when during the Finance Act of 2023, he was among the few to take the matter to the Supreme Court of India.”
