Imphal: Tensions escalated in Manipur’s capital city, Imphal, as armed miscreants attacked a police officer and his security guard, leading to sections of Manipur police commandos reportedly staging an ‘arms down’ protest on Wednesday. This incident unfolded on the first day of the fifth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Sources report that Manipur police commandos from Imphal West, Imphal East, and Bishnupur put down their arms in protest after senior officers allegedly instructed them to restrain from the use of arms or forceful action, despite the armed miscreants firing at and vandalizing the house of a police official in Imphal East on Tuesday evening.

According to police reports, approximately 200 armed miscreants stormed the residence of Additional Superintendent of Police, Moirangthem Amit Singh, under the Porompat police station in Imphal East district. The miscreants vandalized household properties at the residence.

The armed group also kidnapped the police officer, Amit Singh, and his security guard. Fortunately, security forces later rescued them from the Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai area in Imphal West. Both victims were subsequently admitted to Raj Medicity for medical treatment.

In the course of the incident, two individuals, namely Rabinash Moirangthem (24 years old, son of M Ranjan from Kwakeithel Akham Leikai) and Kangujam Bhimsen (20 years old, son of K Abosana from Khongman Bashikhong), sustained injuries and were admitted to JNIMS Hospital.
