Tripura: BJP’s claim to topple ADC sparks row, TIPRA sniffs conspiracy

Agartala: The fight of the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Alliance (TIPRA) is not against any specific community or religion, but illegal immigrants, party chairman Pradyot Debbarman said.

“The Manikya dynasty ruled the state not based on caste and religion. TIPRA is also not against any community, but yes, I support the National Register of Citizens and we strongly feel the illegal immigrants should be deported,” Debbarman said while addressing a rally at Santirbazar under the South Tripura district.

Taking a dig at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, Debbarman said, “The BJP’s slogan says Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas, but unfortunately, there is no reflection of the slogan in remote areas, where our indigenous people are struggling for basics. Our people are suffering from an acute water crisis in the hilly areas, jobs are shrinking, and in some parts, there are no schools, and if there is a school, there is no one to teach. This is the reality of the tribal-dominated areas of the state.”

He said they (BJP) say Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas but things are opposite. “The district council has been turned into a dumping station,” he claimed.

On the alliance issue, he said, this time, there will be no alliance of political parties just for electoral benefits. “All the tribal societies will ally this time to ensure TIPRA wins elections. Winning West Bengal, Gujarat, Delhi, and Rajasthan will make no impact here. We are here to put up a strong fight,” said Debbarman.

Slamming the saffron party for not fulfilling its promises, Debbarman said, “BJP promised 50,000 jobs, Rs 340 as MGNREGA wages, but nothing’s been done so far. Before the next elections, leaders will once again knock on voters’s doros before entertaining them. Keep in mind how they are depriving you.”
