Guwahati: The 35th convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Guwahati Regional Centre, was held today at the PWD Convention and Training Centre.
Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, Advisor to Department of Education, attended the event as the guest of honour.
Certificates to over 200 PG diploma, diploma and degree students in different courses were presented during the convocation ceremony of the Guwahati Regional Centre of IGNOU by advisor Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta.
Mahanta congratulated the students for their successful completion of their much-awaited degrees.
Speaking during the convocation ceremony, Mahanta said “The University has been providing a gateway to all those desirous of improving their qualification and sharpening their academic skills through their open and distance education system.”
Altogether, 4,832 students from Assam were conferred degrees, diplomas and certificates of different programmes in the 35th convocation of the university. Out of which 3,191 students have passed out from Guwahati Regional Centre and 1,671 students have passed out from Jorhat Regional Centre.
The 35th convocation was held at 32 regional centres across the country.
The IGNOU, established by an Act of Parliament in 1985 with the main objective to promote open and distance education system in the country, has been constantly trying to bring about democratization in higher education and provide quality education irrespective of age, religion, gender and region.
The University has made a significant mark in the areas of higher education, community education and continual professional development and continuously striven to build an inclusive knowledge society through inclusive education.
