India logs 214 fresh COVID-19 cases

Aizawl: Mizoram reported 265 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, 22 more than the previous day, taking the state’s tally to 1,41,665, a health department official said.
The single-day positivity rate has increased to 19.62 per cent from 9.69 per cent the previous day, he said.

The death toll rose to 544, as two more persons have succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, he said.

Aizawl district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 97, followed by Kolasib (51) and Mamit (40), he said.

Opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) MLA from Aizawl South I constituency C. Lalsawivung and at least 53 children were among the newly infected people, he said.
The legislator was admitted at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Friday, he said.

The active cases in the northeastern state now stands at 1,735, while 1,39,386 people have recovered from the infection, according to the official. The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 98.39 per cent and the death rate is 0.38 per cent.

The state has so far tested more than 15.08 lakh samples for COVID-19 and 1,351 samples were tested on Friday.

Over 7.30 lakh people have been inoculated and 5.89 lakh of them have received full dose so far, state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi said.
