Shillong: Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday informed that a member of the banned militant outfit HNLC surrendered before the additional Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District.
According to Rymbui, the HNLC cadre, identified as Emanuel Suchen, had joined the banned outfit in 2002 and was once arrested in 2008 and jailed. Suchen once again joined the organisation upon his release.
The home minister said preliminary investigation states that Suchen had a hand in the blast at Star Cement and also at Khliehriat Police Reserve. He said his interrogation is on and they expect to get more information from him.
Asked if Suchen had surrendered after the police’s intensified checking operations, Rymbui stated that it is a combination of both.
“He also surrendered because of the cooperation of the public; his family members and friends had also urged him to surrender and to leave HNLC and this path of violence,” the minister said.
The home minister refused to divulge any more information but said that since the Star Cement IED blast case was under the NIA, it was natural that they will interrogate Suchen as well.
