Itanagar: The police have arrested two persons in connection with the case of the Hormin Hospital vandalism and assault on two doctors. According to reports, another accused has also been identified, but he is currently under home isolation due to COVID-19.
The two arrested persons are the father and daughter duo of the deceased patient and have been identified as Honi Yaja (32) and Honi Appa (57). The other person who is accused has been identified as Toko Apa. The father-daughter duo was arrested from Yazali in the Lower Subansiri district during an overnight raid.
On May 3, Dr Tabu Muri and Dr Nabam Jadav of the Hormin hospital were assaulted by the family of a patient for alleged medical negligence that led to the death of the female patient. The hospital was also allegedly vandalised by the relatives of the deceased.

Reacting to the incident, the Indian Medical Association Arunachal State branch (IMA-AP), Arunachal Pradesh Doctors Association (APDA), Indian Dental Association Arunachal State branch (IDA-AP) and the Tomo Riba Institute Of Health And Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) expressed “deep anguish and strong resentment over the life-threatening mob attack.”
The IMA-AP issued a statement after the incident which read, “All the Doctors of Itanagar Capital Complex would go for two days (Friday & Saturday) shut down of Routine Works excluding Emergency & COVID duties from 6 am of 7th May till 6 pm 8th May 2021 as a mark of protest against the attempt of mob lynching & vandalism.”
The IMA-AP and the APDA later decided to curtail their two-day protest to 24 hours following a meeting between the two associations and Health Minister Alo Libang at the Civil Secretariat on May 6.
The IMA-AP later carried out their protest on May 7 and continued it on May 8 as well. But they later called off their ongoing protest following a written assurance by the state’s health minister to address their grievances.
