Guwahati: The act of depriving retired teachers of their pensions is nothing but a conspiracy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said Assam Jatiya Parishad.
They urged the government not to deprive retired teachers and employees of their pensions.
The regional party also expressed outrage over the “injustice” done by the BJP-led government to the retired teachers via the new National Pension Scheme.
In a press release, Assam Jatiya Parishad said retired teachers or employees before 2005 followed the 1969 pension policy of receiving 60% of their last salary. However, post-2005 retired teachers and employees will fall under the new policy of getting just 2% of their last salary.
For example, people who took their retirement with their last salary being Rs 35,000, he or she will only get Rs 500 as a pension. “Similarly, a retired college principal with a salary of around Rs 2 lakh will get a pension of Rs 2,500 per month,” stated the release.

It added, “In the eyes of Assam Jatiya Parishad this insignificant amount of pension is not only unfair to a retired teacher or employee, but also disgraceful.”
The press release stated that “The BJP government, which has failed to provide for lakhs of unemployed people in the state, has now brought darkness to countless families by depriving the now-retired parents their due pensions.”
The regional party demanded that the government provide justice to the retired teachers and employees, or face consequences.
