Assam: With 1,680 new COVID-19 cases, state's tally hits 26,772

Guwahati: Assam on Tuesday registered another 1,680 COVID-19 cases, taking the state’s total to 26,772 so far. Of the new cases, 167 are from Jorhat, 159 from Cachar and 570 from Guwahati, informed state health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Taking to Twitter, Sarma wrote, “Alert ~ 1680 new #COVID19 patients detected in Assam on July 21.Guwahati reported 570 cases.( Jorhat167,Cachar 159)

With 18152 tests carried out in 24 hours, our positivity rate is 9.2%.

Total cases 26772

Recovered 18033

Active cases 8672

Deaths 64”

Meanwhile, the state also reported six more deaths due to COVID-19. This included two from Kamrup (Metro), where a lockdown is currently underway.

“I’m extremely disheartened to share that Rekha Dutta (63, Darrang), Mona Das (51, Dibrugarh), Sister Florence (74, Kamrup M), Mukiv Ali (65, Kamrup Rural), Ramesh Ch Dekha (67, Kamrup Rural) & Bulin Begum (44, Kamrup M) succumbed to #COVID19. Condolences to their families,” Sarma wrote on Twitter.

However, on a positive note, 938 patients were also discharged on Tuesday. Coining it as a “beacon of hope,” Sarma wrote, “Discharge Alert

938 patients have been discharged today.

Patients returning home healthy are our beacon of hope.

India is currently in the second position in the world in terms of COVID-19 testing following the US. With 4,02,529 active cases, India takes up the third spot in the worst-hit COVID-19 countries in the world.
