On the basis of specific input suggesting presence of a huge hidden cache, the Red Horns Division of the Indian Army along with Chirang police launched a search operation along Sukanteklai River near the international border in Chirang.

After a toiling search involving a metal detector, a suspected spot was located. On digging by the team, a hidden cache of ammunition and explosives was found. The cache included a large amount of ammunition, detonators and grenades.

It is believed that the items belonged to the banned militant organisation, National Democratic Front of Boroland-Saoraigwra (NDFB-S).

This is the second major success of the army and the police in unearthing arms and ammunition. Last month, a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives was found in Panbari Reserve Forest.
