Shillong: Odisha Fire Services personnel resumed their operations to pump out water from the old shaft at 10.30 am on Friday of the ill-fated coal mine in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district. A platform was also installed in the same shaft by the Coal India Limited team present at the site. This is the second shaft adjoining the main one where the team is undertaking its dewatering efforts from.
The Kirloskar Brothers team, too, which was readying to lay a platform on the main shaft of the coal mine since Wednesday, was successful in laying down two pumps by Friday evening.
Operation spokesperson R Susngi told EastMojo that the Odisha Fire Services personnel were engaged all day long in pumping out water from the old shaft, and the water level receded by 3.5 ft with the help of two pumps, and around 9, 00,000 litres of water were pumped out in total.
Meanwhile Coal India Ltd was successful in installing the submersible pump into the old shaft around 3:30 pm on Friday afternoon.
Preparations are on to make all the pumps in both the old shafts and the main shaft operational by Saturday morning.
