Agartala: Section 144 has been imposed and large contingents of CRPF, Tripura State Rifles, and police personnel have been deployed across the Gandatwisa subdivision (formerly known as Gandacherra) under Dhalai district of Tripura. This action follows the death of Parameshwar Reang, a youth who succumbed to injuries sustained during a recent scuffle.
According to local sources, Reang was assaulted by four individuals at the Cricket Stadium in the 30 Card area during a local fair. He suffered severe injuries and was initially rushed to a local hospital before being referred to the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital for advanced medical care. Unfortunately, Reang passed away on Friday at GBP Hospital.
The news of his death has caused tension throughout the subdivision. Reang’s mortal remains were brought back to Gandacherra around 7 PM after all necessary medical procedures were completed. To prevent any potential incidents, heavy security arrangements have been put in place across the area.
The situation escalated with attacks on some residences, although there are no confirmed reports on the number of families affected by the violence. Six security personnel, including CRPF members, were injured while attempting to defuse the tension.
District Magistrate and Collector of Dhalai district, Saju Vaheed, confirmed that the four individuals involved in the attack on Reang have been arrested and are currently under judicial custody.
“All four persons accused of attacking the deceased have been arrested and are now in judicial custody,” Vaheed stated. “Considering the law and order situation, we have imposed Section 144 since this morning. CRPF and TSR personnel are deployed, and the situation is under control.”
Tipra Motha Party supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has urged the people of Gandatwisa to maintain peace and tranquility.
“I condemn the murder of Parameshwar Reang in Gandatwisa. I have personally spoken to the highest police authority and demanded that the culprits be charged under relevant IPC sections. I also appeal for peace and restraint and will personally visit the family. We demand justice,” Debbarman stated in a social media post.
In an audio message, Debbarman further urged locals to maintain peace, saying, “I have spoken to senior police officials. I urge everyone to maintain peace in the area.”
