The National Institute for Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD) has released the National Curriculum for Early Childhood Care and Education for Children from Three to Six Years. The new curriculum is part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of early childhood education and care in India.
The curriculum has been designed to cater to the needs of children of all ages and is structured to provide a weekly calendar of 36 weeks. It focuses on playful and joy-based learning, emphasising cognitive development and vocabulary acquisition. The curriculum also makes provisions for the inclusion of children with disabilities and the creation of a support system for families.
The government has also released a National Framework for Early Childhood Stimulation for Children from Birth to Three Years, which aims to provide caregivers and Anganwadi workers with training and support in providing early childhood stimulation services to children under three years.
The framework emphasises the importance of responsive caregiving and opportunities for early learning to stimulate the holistic development of children. It also proposes several age-based activities that can be conducted in the household and at the Anganwadi Centre.
The launch of the new curriculum and framework is a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to strengthen the early childhood care and education landscape in India. It is hoped that the new curriculum will help improve the quality of early childhood education and care for all children and contribute to their overall development.
