Kohima: Nagaland is set to celebrate the 80th Independence Day along with the rest of the country, with the state-level ceremonial function scheduled to be held at the Nagaland Secretariat Plaza in Kohima at 9 am on August 15.
The programme will feature the hoisting of the National Flag by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, followed by a Guard of Honour by personnel from the State Police, paramilitary forces, Home Guards, ex-servicemen and NCC, among others.
In the districts and sub-divisions, deputy chief ministers, ministers, advisors and respective ADCs and SDOs will hoist the National Flag and take the Rashtriya Salute.
As per instructions issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the National Song, Vande Mataram, will be sung upon the arrival of the chief minister at the state-level venue, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag and the National Anthem.
Following the chief minister’s address, Vande Mataram will be sung again, followed by the National Anthem. The programme will then feature a march past and cultural and entertainment programmes.
The same sequence for Vande Mataram and the National Anthem will be followed at Independence Day programmes in the districts and sub-divisions.
The Home Department said that when Vande Mataram is sung, members of the audience are expected to stand at attention, as they do during the National Anthem.
The Home Department has invited citizens to participate in the Independence Day celebrations at the state capital and in their respective districts and sub-divisions.
The state-level celebration in Kohima will also be livestreamed on the official YouTube channel of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Nagaland.
