Kohima: Nagaland will host an Open Recruitment Rally for the Indian Air Force’s Agniveervayu scheme in September 2026, marking the return of an IAF recruitment drive to the state after a gap of 10 years.

An official update from the government informed that the decision was taken at a meeting convened by the Special Secretary (Home) on June 10 at the conference room of the Principal Secretary (Home) in Kohima.

Officials from the Home Department and other key departments attended the meeting to discuss preparations for the recruitment exercise.

Welcoming the participants, the Special Secretary (Home) expressed appreciation to Wing Commander A. Muralidharan, Commanding Officer of the Indian Air Force, and his colleague for facilitating the recruitment initiative. He said the rally would provide a valuable opportunity for the youth of Nagaland to serve in the Indian Air Force.

During the meeting, Wing Commander Muralidharan outlined the benefits of the Agniveer scheme and noted that young people from Nagaland and other Northeastern states have not fully benefited from such opportunities due to limited awareness and relatively low participation in previous recruitment drives.

He informed the gathering that the upcoming rally would be open to both male and female candidates under the Agniveervayu (Non-Technical) category.

Highlighting the significance of the event, the officer said this would be the first IAF recruitment rally in Nagaland in a decade. He requested the state government to extend logistical support, including transportation and accommodation arrangements for five to seven officers and around 70 Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers who will be involved in conducting the recruitment process.

Following deliberations, it was decided that the recruitment rally would tentatively be held at the Nagaland Armed Police Training Centre (NAPTC) in Chumoukedima, which already possesses much of the infrastructure and logistical support required for the exercise.

The meeting also finalised department-wise responsibilities to ensure the smooth conduct of the rally.

The Police Headquarters (PHQ) has been tasked with appointing a nodal officer from the 1st NAP Battalion in Chumoukedima to coordinate with IAF authorities and oversee administrative and logistical arrangements at the venue.

The Commissioner’s Office will direct the Deputy Commissioner of Chumoukedima to provide the necessary administrative support during the recruitment drive.

The Health and Family Welfare Department will deploy a medical team led by two doctors, along with support staff and an ambulance, throughout the event. Meanwhile, the School Education Department will provide four teachers through the District Education Officer, Chumoukedima, to assist in the verification and authentication of candidates’ documents.

The Home Department will coordinate with the PHQ to arrange transportation facilities, while the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) will undertake extensive publicity through print, electronic, digital and social media platforms across the state.

The Inspector General of Fire Services has also been requested to deploy a fire tender for emergency duties during the rally.

It was further decided that the Indian Air Force would release the recruitment notification, including eligibility criteria and qualification requirements, at least 45 days before the rally to ensure maximum awareness and participation among aspiring candidates across Nagaland.
