Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Friday visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Nagaland Centre, at Medziphema and reviewed its ongoing research, technology dissemination programmes and contributions to agricultural development in the state.
During the visit, scientists presented the Centre’s work in crop improvement, integrated farming systems, horticulture, agroforestry, livestock development, fisheries, water conservation and climate-resilient agriculture.
The Governor was briefed on various research projects, technology demonstrations, farmer outreach programmes and capacity-building initiatives being undertaken across Nagaland.
The presentation highlighted several achievements, including the development of drought-tolerant rice varieties, promotion of high-yielding crops, integrated farming models for small and marginal farmers, rainwater harvesting systems, improved cultivation technologies for Naga King Chilli, horticultural value-addition initiatives, and innovations in pig and poultry production.
Scientists also showcased the Centre’s work in artificial insemination in pigs, conservation of indigenous livestock resources and distribution of improved germplasm to farmers across the Northeast.
Yadav toured the Centre’s experimental fields, nurseries, laboratories, livestock units, fisheries facilities and processing units. He interacted with scientists and staff members and appreciated their efforts in advancing agricultural research and supporting farmers through location-specific technologies and extension services.
The Governor commended the institution for its role in enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable farming practices and strengthening rural livelihoods in Nagaland.
