Kohima: The political crisis within the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), which had escalated following a no-confidence motion against chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi, was resolved on Wednesday after intervention by senior leaders of the Naga People’s Front (NPF).
The no-confidence motion had been moved by 12 councillors inclusing six from the NPF and six from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by deputy chairperson Imlinaro S Ezung. The development had exposed divisions within the ruling alliance and prompted preparations for a floor test scheduled for May 22.
However, following a series of discussions facilitated by senior party leaders, the DMC chairperson and deputy chairperson issued a joint reconciliatory statement announcing that all differences and misunderstandings had been resolved in the larger interest of party unity and public service.
In the joint statement issued on behalf of the elected NPF councillors of the DMC, chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi and deputy chairperson Imlinaro S Ezung said they had taken an unconditional decision to reconcile following the initiative of the NPF leadership.
They stated that the reconciliation was aimed at preserving party unity and reaffirming their collective commitment to serve the people of Dimapur.
The councillors also expressed appreciation to the party leadership under Neiphiu Rio, who is also the president of the NPF, for guiding them towards unity and reconciliation.
They further affirmed their commitment to uphold good governance, accountability and transparency in the functioning of the municipal council.

Stating that all members had reconciled and agreed to work together as one united team, the councillors informed that there was no longer any need for the proposed floor test and that the concerned authorities had been officially requested to call it off.
The leaders also appealed to the public and stakeholders to extend support and cooperation towards the overall development of Dimapur city.
