Kohima: Following reports of a fire outbreak in southern Dzükou Valley, Kohima deputy commissioner B Henok Buchem has formed a team to undertake reconnaissance and rescue operations.
In an official order, the DC stated that the team will be led by SDO (Civil) Jakhama, Vineikho Tetso, and will include the SDPO (South), district commandant of Home Guards, range forest officer of the Forest Department, nodal officer of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), officer-in-charge of Fire and Emergency Services, and representatives of the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO).
The team has been directed to proceed to the site of the incident, assess the situation on the ground and take necessary measures to contain the fire. The deputy commissioner assured that all available resources would be mobilised to prevent the fire from spreading further.
The team has also been instructed to submit regular reports to the DC for further action.
Meanwhile, the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has temporarily suspended trekking to Dzükou Valley following reports of fire along the trekking routes.

In a notification, SAYO president Zasitsolie Beio and general secretary Keneisel Tetso said the suspension applies to both entry points — Jakhama and Viswema — until further notice.
According to SAYO, the fire incident reported on January 26, 2026, has been burning uncontrollably, posing a serious risk to trekkers. The organisation said it is coordinating with government agencies and other stakeholders to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
SAYO expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the general public.
