Kohima: The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has announced new regulations for trekkers visiting Dzükou Valley in Nagaland, effective from October 1.
As per the directives, all trekkers will now be required to hire SAYO-registered tour guides, and no trekking will be allowed beyond 3:00 PM either towards or from the valley.
The organisation said the decision comes in response to a growing number of incidents where trekkers, without guides, lost their way or got stranded along the trail. In many cases, SAYO volunteers had to conduct rescue operations late at night or early in the morning, often at considerable risk and expense.
According to the new rules, all trekkers must hire a local guide before entering Dzükou Valley, and trekking after 3:00 PM is strictly prohibited. Defaulters will face penalties as per rules, and SAYO will not be responsible for any risks incurred.
SAYO President Zasitsolie Beio and General Secretary Keneisel Tetso urged visitors to cooperate with the directives, stating that the measures are necessary for both the safety of tourists and the preservation of Dzükou Valley.
