Kohima: The Kiphire District Congress Committee (DCC) has extended its support to Tsumongthong Yim, a resident of Fakim village, who has alleged corruption in the Pungren–Mimi to Fakim road project sanctioned under Phase VIII of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
In a statement, Kiphire DCC president K. Tsalimong described Yim’s efforts as a display of civic responsibility and a reminder of the power of individual voices in holding institutions accountable.
“The revelations brought to light through the Right to Information (RTI) Act are deeply troubling. Despite official records indicating that Rs 727.06 lakh was released for the completion of a 20 km road project, on-ground verification reportedly shows that little to no substantive work was carried out,” Tsalimong said.
The Congress leader said that these revelations raise serious questions about the integrity of the project and those responsible for its execution.
He also expressed concern that Yim’s appeal to the First Appellate Authority of the PWD (R&B) was dismissed as a “misunderstanding.” He said this response undermined the legitimacy of the concerns raised and reflected a lack of transparency and accountability within the system.
“His characterization of the situation as a ―travesty of justice‖ is not only justified—it is a wake-up call for all stakeholders in governance and civil society,” the statement said.
The Congress leader said the issue was not merely a case of financial malpractice but a betrayal of public trust, a denial of basic infrastructure to a remote community, and a violation of the principles of equitable development. He added that the alleged collusion between contractors and public officials, if proven true, represented a systemic failure that must be addressed with urgency and resolve.
Commending Yim for his resilience, the DCC president said he had shown determination in the face of threats and pressure to abandon his pursuit of justice.
Further, the party demanded a comprehensive and independent investigation into the project and its financial records; legal and disciplinary action against those involved in corrupt practices; immediate steps to deliver the promised road connectivity to Fakim and adjoining areas; and institutional reforms to strengthen transparency, oversight, and whistleblower protection mechanisms.
The party said the case could serve as a turning point for governance and called upon the Nagaland government to act decisively. It urged the state to restore faith in public institutions by ensuring justice and development for the communities that need it most.
