Mon: In a move aimed at ensuring public safety and averting potential security risks, the Deputy Commissioner of Mon district, Wenyei Konyak, has issued a circular prohibiting the wearing of camouflage or military-style clothing in public spaces, including fields and jungle areas.
The order, issued “in the interest of public safety,” highlights concerns over mistaken identity, possible confusion, and the threat such attire may pose in a district with a sensitive security landscape.
“In the interest of public safety and to avoid any untoward incidents or mistaken identity, and to prevent potential confusion and serious security concerns, it is hereby ordered that no individual shall wear camouflage or military-style clothing while going to fields, jungle areas, or any public spaces,” the order stated.
The directive comes amid heightened alertness in various regions and seeks to prevent any incidents that may arise due to misidentification.
All Village Councils across Mon district have been instructed to widely disseminate the directive and ensure immediate compliance. Subordinate administrative officers, including the ADCs of Aboi, Tobu, Naginimora, and Tizit, as well as SDOs and EACs in other subdivisions, have been tasked with implementing the order within their respective jurisdictions.
The Deputy Commissioner has further directed that the message be communicated through multiple channels — including village authorities, public notice boards, and other effective means — to ensure that the public is thoroughly informed.
Copies of the directive have been forwarded to the Superintendent of Police, Mon; the Commandant of the 42 Assam Rifles; and the Deputy Commandant of the Village Guards for necessary action and coordination.
The order takes immediate effect.
