Dimapur: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather advisory forecasting widespread heavy rainfall across the state until June 25, 2025, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning likely during this period.
In its alert, the NSDMA urged the public and all relevant agencies to remain vigilant and adopt precautionary measures to mitigate risks associated with the anticipated severe weather.
According to the NSDMA, “heavy to very heavy rainfall” is expected on June 18, particularly affecting the districts of Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, and Shamatore.
From June 19 onwards, all districts of Nagaland are likely to experience “heavy rainfall”, with “very heavy rain” anticipated in Longleng, Mon, and Tuensang districts on June 19.
The advisory also highlights the potential impact of thunderstorms and lightning during this period, cautioning the public to avoid exposure during high wind activity. Notably, lowland and foothill regions including Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli have been identified as vulnerable zones with increased risk of waterlogging and flash floods due to excessive precipitation.
The NSDMA, under the Home Department, has called on the public to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas. All District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and line departments have been directed to remain on high alert to respond swiftly to any emergencies that may arise.
Further, the public are advised to contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at the toll-free number 1070 in case of emergencies.
