Kohima: Venuzo Dawhuo emerged as the champion of the 17th Hornbill International Naga Wrestling Championship 2024, held under the aegis of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA).
Dawhuo defeated Venu Vadeo in a thrilling final to claim the prestigious title.
The semi-finalists in the Hornbill Championship category were Kezhaseluo Pienyü and Vemele Thingo, who showcased exceptional skill throughout the tournament.
The championship also featured two weight-based categories. In the 90 Kg and below Seyiejalie Gwirie emerged as the champion with runner-up Thuputha Hesuh and semi-finalists Neikerhezo Zhünyü and Vevokho Ruho.
In the 75 Kg & below Keneiselie Khawakhrie emerged as champion and Rokuokehie Khawakhrie as runner-up. Kuluvezo Soho and Nlumrai were semi-finalists in the weight category.
This year’s competition saw the participation of 50 wrestlers, including 40 men and 10 women, marking a significant step in promoting gender inclusivity within Naga wrestling.
