The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has raised concerns over Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his cabinet’s lack of communication following their recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other central leaders.

The meeting, convened to discuss the sensitive issue of the NSCN (I-M)’s threat to resume armed struggle, has left the public in uncertainty and fueled speculation about the status of the Naga Political Peace Process.

In a statement, the NPCC highlighted the growing atmosphere of “deep concern and confusion” among the people due to the absence of updates on the outcome of the high-stakes discussions.

“Considering the seriousness of the situation at hand, it was expected of the Hon’ble Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues to update the public on the outcome of the meeting,” the NPCC remarked, criticizing the silence from the state government.

The Congress body cautioned that the lack of transparency could exacerbate misinformation and misunderstandings surrounding the ongoing peace process.

“The fact that they chose not to come out with a positive message, reassuring the people that both the negotiating parties are doing their utmost to iron out their differences and maintain the spirit of the decades-long Naga Political Peace Process, is extremely worrisome,” the NPCC said, urging the state leadership to address the public and provide clarity.

The Naga Political Peace Process, a decades-long effort to resolve insurgency and political instability in the region, has entered a delicate phase after the NSCN (I-M) issued an ultimatum threatening to abandon talks. While both the state and central governments have reiterated their commitment to the process, the lack of public reassurance has raised questions about potential setbacks in negotiations.

The NPCC emphasized the importance of proactive communication, stating that transparency is essential to preserving the fragile trust in the peace process and preventing further unrest in the region.
