Pughoboto: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has called on the Sumi people, historically known as Nagaland’s “warrior tribe,” to redefine their legacy as “warriors of peace” during the inauguration of the new Administrative Complex in Pughoboto on October 16.
Rio emphasized the need for harmony, brotherhood, and development, urging the youth to pursue government services, entrepreneurship, and make use of government initiatives. He stressed the importance of collaboration between officials and citizens to foster growth in the region.
The newly inaugurated Administrative Complex, located in Pughoboto Subdivision of Zunheboto District, marks a significant step toward regional development. Along with the new complex, Rio also inaugurated the offices of the Executive Engineer PWD (R&B), Functional Manager Sub-DIC, and the Assistant Public Relations Office. These will be joined by other departments, turning the complex into a key administrative hub.
Additionally, Rio opened the first-ever branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) in Pughoboto and the G.B.’s Customary Court, under the Sumi Aphuyemi Kukami Hoho (SAKH). He expressed appreciation for the resilience and dedication shown by the people of Pughoboto toward regional development.
He acknowledged the historical significance of the Pughoboto region and praised the leadership it has produced. He encouraged the youth to continue this legacy and urged public officials to share their knowledge and skills with the community to ensure progress.
Rio also promoted government health services, including the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS), urging people to take advantage of these welfare programs.
MLA Dr. Sukhato A. Sema commended Rio’s leadership, highlighting the timely payment of compensation to land donors from Mishilimi and Lazami villages. He emphasized that the new complex would bring stability and predictability to the functioning of the government, benefiting the public.
Sema also mentioned that the opening of SBI at Pughoboto would ensure accessible banking facilities, boosting the local economy. He added that the region would soon benefit from the Prime Minister Employment Generation Scheme (PEGS) and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
The newly inaugurated Customary Court, aligned with the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiyam (BSN) 2023, aims to preserve Sumi traditional practices and strengthen the community’s socio-cultural fabric.
The event featured cultural performances, including folk dances by Ghokimi Village and traditional songs by Lazami Village. A booklet titled The Image, documenting development efforts led by Dr. Sukhato A. Sema, was released by the Chief Minister.
