Dimapur: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Nagaland, Vyasan R, has issued a show-cause notice to Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Y Patton in response to a viral video circulating on social media, implicating him in alleged electoral misconduct.
The notice, signed by CEO Vyasan R, states that the video, posted on Facebook, has garnered widespread attention. According to the report received from the District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, the video captures Y Patton delivering a campaign speech in favor of the People Democratic Alliance (PDA) consensus candidate, Dr. Chumben Murry, during a meeting at the LTC Conference Hall in Wokha Town on April 5, 2024.
The order further highlights Patton’s alleged incitement of village functionaries such as Council Chairmen, Gaon Buras, and Polling agents to cast multiple votes, thereby interfering with the free exercise of electoral rights of the villagers.
CEO Vyasan R underscores that such actions contravene Section 171C of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, which addresses interference in the free exercise of electoral rights, as well as Section 171D, pertaining to the offense of impersonation.
In response to these grave allegations, the order instructs Y Patton to provide a prompt explanation as to why action should not be taken against him.
Dated April 7th, the order has only recently surfaced in the public domain and is being widely circulated across various social media platforms.
