Kohima: President of the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Chingwang Konyak, on Monday issued an apology over his remark on the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO)’s demand for a Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT).
This development comes a day after the Konyak Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) summoned the NDPP president to appear at the Konyak Union office at Mon Headquarters within “48 hours” of receiving the notice to address the “violations” and to “explain” himself.
Through an “Apology Undertaking”, the NDPP chief accepted responsibility for his recent actions that were deemed contrary to the resolution put forth by the Konyak Union (KU) on March 30, 2024.
The senior politician expressed profound regret for his remarks made during an election rally in Wokha on April 5, concerning the ENPO-FNT issue.
He emphasised that his comments were made without relevance to his election campaign or rally and admitted to the gravity of his mistake. Chingwang Konyak assured that such actions would not be repeated in the future.
In adherence to the resolution set by the Konyak Union and in a bid to preserve the integrity of the union, he committed to refraining from engaging or commenting on the ENPO-FNT issue during any canvassing or election campaign activities, both in his individual capacity and as President of NDPP, Nagaland.

Furthermore, Konyak pledged to continue dedicating his efforts towards the advancement and prosperity of the Eastern Nagaland people and the Konyak community.
During the NDPP’s campaign, the former parliamentarian had commented that the ENPO’s decision to boycott the polls would not incur any loss to others but would instead constitute a loss for the people in the state.
