The Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) Training Centre Complex in Chumoukedima witnessed a significant event on Saturday, March 16, with the unveiling of the Police Memorial. Led by the Director General of Police, Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, the ceremony paid homage to the brave souls of Nagaland Police who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The solemn occasion included a ceremonial laying of wreaths, followed by the Shok Shastra Shraddhanjali Drill, marking respect and remembrance for the fallen officers.
Addressing the gathering as the special guest, Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma highlighted the distinguished legacy of the Nagaland police, noting its early recognition with the presidential colors—a distinction not yet attained by some other notable police forces in the country. Despite these accolades, Sharma emphasized the continuous need for improvement within the force.
The unveiling of the Police Memorial was hailed as a modest gesture to honor the sacrifices made by policemen in the line of duty. Sharma proposed the establishment of a centralized police memorial for Nagaland, envisaging a state-level monument encompassing all units of the Nagaland police force.
Beyond physical memorials, Sharma advocated for the documentation of the fallen officers’ contributions and the incidents leading to their demise. He suggested the creation of booklets or books detailing their service and sacrifice, with potential integration into police training programs to impart the lessons learned from their experiences.
While acknowledging the accomplishments of the Nagaland police, Sharma stressed the importance of ongoing adaptation to new technologies and crime management strategies. He urged police personnel to prioritize training, emphasizing its critical role in enhancing skills and readiness.
