Kohima: Naga People’s Front (NPF) legislator and leader of the party’s legislature, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu on Tuesday urged the leader of the House to uphold the principles of an oppositionless government and allocate funds to the 23 MLAs who joined the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) to form an opposition-less government.
The senior legislator made the appeal during a discussion on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address on the second day of the ongoing State Assembly.
He pointed out that 23 legislators were not allocated any portfolios. While legislators from the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were allocated portfolios as cabinet ministers and advisers, he said that since there was no opposition in the present government, MLAs from other political parties should be given their share in fund allocation acknowledging their support to the government.
Owing to the Naga political issue, all the members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly had extended their support to the government and had become part of the opposition-less government.

This move was necessitated to facilitate in bringing about an early solution.
“I thank all the Hon’ble Members of the House for their unflinching commitment to the peaceful and early resolution of the Naga Political Issue and for coming together to form an opposition-less Government to facilitate its early resolution in the larger interest of our people. I would like to reiterate that my Government is ready to pave the way for the final solution that is honourable, acceptable, and inclusive,” Nagaland governor La Ganesan had said in his address on the first day.
