Kohima: The recently concluded Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games (NOPG) 2024 witnessed a spectacular showcase of talent and sportsmanship, as young Naga athletes left an indelible mark on the sporting arena.
Among the standout performers were Lhantai Konyak and Neshe Maonyu Konyak, who displayed exceptional prowess in their respective disciplines, garnering admiration and acclaim from spectators and enthusiasts alike.
Hailing from Yonghong Village in Mon District, Lhantai Konyak emerged as a beacon of sporting excellence in Sepak Takraw. Born in 2006, Lhantai’s journey from his humble beginnings to the podium of NOPG 2024 is a testament to his dedication and perseverance, as per the Nagaland Olympic Association.
Representing Mon District with pride, Lhantai secured a Bronze medal in the Men’s Regu event and further cemented his triumph with a Gold medal in the fiercely contested Quad event.
His contributions were instrumental in Mon District’s success, underscoring their prowess in the sport. Lhantai’s commitment extends beyond NOPG, as evidenced by his participation in national-level competitions, highlighting his determination to excel on the grandest stages of Sepak Takraw.
In the realm of athletics, Neshe Maonyu Konyak, from Wangshu village in Tobu, Mon district, captured hearts with her exceptional performances on the track. Born on April 2, 2010, Neshe’s journey in athletics began at a tender age, fueled by her passion for running.
At just 13 years old, Neshe showcased remarkable talent and dedication at NOPG 2024, representing the Government Higher Secondary School in Peren district. She clinched the Gold medal in the fiercely competitive 100m women’s category with a remarkable time of 13.89 seconds and led her team to victory in the grueling 4x400m mixed relay, securing another Gold medal for Peren district.
Neshe’s achievements not only earned her accolades but also positioned her as a future star in athletics, inspiring aspiring athletes across Nagaland with her determination and hard work.
