Wokha: The apex civil society organizations (CSOs) of Wokha district, Nagaland, initiated an indefinite bandh on the National Highway-2 traversing through the district, commencing at 6 AM.
The bandh, set to continue until February 9, 2024, adheres to specific modalities outlined by the CSOs. Should authorities fail to provide a positive response by 6 PM on February 9, 2024, the CSOs warned that the indefinite bandh will be intensified.
Failure of authorities to initiate work on the ongoing two-lane construction of NH-2, the CSOs warned of an indefinite lockdown of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Wokha.
In addition, an indefinite lockdown of the Sub-Divisional Officer (National Highway) office in Wokha and total restriction of vehicular movement and closure of all commercial establishments in the district will be initiated.
However, certain services would be exempted from the bandh’s purview, including police, paramilitary forces, medical services (including ambulances and private vehicles transporting patients or deceased individuals), fire and emergency services, power department personnel with duty details, postal services, and the press.

In cases of medical emergencies within the district, citizens have been advised to obtain witness documents from their respective Village Council authorities or Colony Council chairpersons and present them to bandh volunteers to acquire car passes.
The CSOs appealed to the Lotha community, as well as the broader Naga populace, to comprehend the legitimate demand for improved roads and to extend cooperation and support in the pursuit of justice.
