Kohima: In a recent development, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio appointed Wangpang Konyak, the NDPP MLA representing 43 Tapi A/C, as an Advisor to the Department of Social Welfare.
This move aims to leverage Konyak’s extensive practical experience for the welfare of the public.
According to a notification issued by Cabinet Secretary J Alam, this arrangement is designed to tap into Konyak’s expertise, wherein he will provide advice upon referral by the concerned department. His suggestions will be considered before decisions are finalized by the Minister in charge.
As per the order, Konyak will not receive any additional financial benefits from the Nagaland government for his advisory role. The notification explicitly states that he will not be eligible for any pay, salary, emolument, remuneration, or perks other than those typically received by MLAs through the Assembly Secretariat.

Wangpang Konyak contested the by-poll from 43-Tapi (ST) Assembly Constituency and defeated Congress candidate Wanglem Konyak by a margin of 5,333 votes.
In December last year, NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer administered the oath of office to the newly elected member.
